The Kennedy Cougars will head out on the road to challenge the Marquez Gladiators at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Kennedy will be strutting in after a victory while Marquez will be coming in after a loss.
It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Kennedy had no problem doing just that on Friday. Their defense stepped up to hand the Lancers a 2-0 shutout. The result kept Kennedy happy, as they haven't lost a game since January 19th.
They were led to victory by the tag-team duo of
Jason Ortiz and
Luis Heredia, who scored both of Kennedy's goals. The pair have combined for a total of nine so far this season.
Meanwhile, after a string of nine wins, Marquez's good fortune finally ran out last Friday. They fell just short of Torres by a score of 1-0. Having soared to a lofty four goals in the game before, Marquez couldn't push the score so high this time.
The win got Kennedy back to even at 7-7-7. As for Marquez, their loss ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 16-3-6.
Kennedy came up short against Marquez in their previous matchup back in February of 2015, falling 2-0. Can Kennedy avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
