It was a good run, but Grand River Academy unfortunately witnessed the end of their eight-game winning streak on Saturday. They ended up on the wrong side of a rough 70-49 walloping at the hands of McDowell. While losing is never fun, Grand River Academy can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 293rd in Ohio, while McDowell is ranked 29th in Pennsylvania).
Several Grand River Academy players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Filip Runjo, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 11 rebounds. Joseph Quartey was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with six steals.
Grand River Academy's loss ended a seven-game streak of away wins and brought them to 8-1. As for McDowell, they have been performing well recently as they've won ten of their last 12 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 14-3 record this season.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Grand River Academy will take on Lake Ridge Academy at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Lake Ridge Academy is coming into the contest with nine straight victories on the road, meaning Grand River Academy will have to defend against a squad hungry for a victory. As for McDowell, they will be playing at home against Fort LeBoeuf at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in McDowell's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last 12 matches.
