It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Balmorhea had no problem doing just that on Monday. They snuck past the Sanderson Eagles with a 39-35 victory. Winning may never get old, but the Bears sure are getting used to it with their fifth in a row.
Sanderson's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Bella Sanchez, who almost dropped a double-double with 18 points and nine rebounds. Sanchez is also crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Emily Landeros was another key player, putting up two points and 11 steals.
Balmorhea's win bumped their record up to 18-10. As for Sanderson, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 13-11.
Looking ahead, Balmorhea will face off against Irion County at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Irion County has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last four games. Sanderson does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
