Fullerton has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will face off against the Troy Warriors at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both teams come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Fullerton scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Wednesday. They came out on top against Santa Ana by a score of 64-56. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Baylor Wilks continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, shooting 7-for-11 from beyond the arc and dropping a double-double on 39 points and ten rebounds. Those ten rebounds set a new season-high mark for him. Another player making a difference was Jeremy Guillen, who scored 17 points.
Meanwhile, Troy beat Santiago 55-45 on Tuesday. Given Troy's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 143rd, while Santiago is ranked 847th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Troy can attribute much of their success to Josh King, who scored 14 points along with three steals, and Terry Ahn, who scored 22 points. Those 22 points set a new season-high mark for him. The team also got some help courtesy of Andre Taberna, who scored seven points.
The win got Fullerton back to even at 6-6. As for Troy, their victory bumped their record up to 10-3.
Keep an eye on the arc in Thursday's matchup: Fullerton have made nailing deep shots look easy this year this season, having only averaged 4.8 threes per game. It's a different story for Troy, though, as they've been averaging only 6.5 threes per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Fullerton came up short against Troy in their previous meeting back in February, falling 57-53. Can Fullerton avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
