Wenonah is 7-2 against Midfield since December of 2014, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. The Wenonah Dragons will look to defend their home court against the Midfield Patriots at 6:00 p.m. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Wenonah has struggled recently with three defeats in a row, while Midfield will arrive with three straight victories.
Last Saturday, Wenonah came up short against Minor and fell 60-48.
Despite the loss, Wenonah got a solid performance out of Samarian Franklin, who scored 29 points along with 5 rebounds and 3 steals. Franklin scored a full 60.4% of Wenonah's points, the fifth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jamaria Dorman, who scored 6 points along with 11 rebounds.
Meanwhile, Midfield got the win against Jackson-Olin on Monday by a conclusive 50-30. Given Midfield's advantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked 97th, while Jackson-Olin is ranked 225th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Midfield got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Kamiya Webb out in front who almost dropped a triple-double on 9 points, 12 rebounds, and 10 blocks. Webb is absolutely dominating the rebound category: she's posted at least eight every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Jazmin Johnson, who scored 17 points along with 4 steals.
Parker's victory bumped their season record to 0-0 while Wenonah's loss dropped theirs to 8-3.
Tuesday's contest is shaping up to be a masterclass in shooting: Wenonah have been dynamite from deep this season, having only made 34.1% of their threes per game. It's a different story for Midfield, though, as they've only made 32.6% of theirs this season. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out. Everything went Wenonah's way against Midfield in their previous matchup back in November as Wenonah made off with a 69-45 win. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Midfield's Webb, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 23 rebounds. Now that she's got a second chance to win this matchup, will Wenonah still be able to contain him? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
