This season hasn't been kind to the Westside Wolverines, who are still winless after their tenth match. They were beaten by Raines 53-0 on Friday. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Westside in their matchups with Raines: they've now lost four in a row.
Heyward Smith Jr. threw for 38 yards on five of 18 attempts.
Raines got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Ty'ren Randolph out in front who rushed for 65 yards and a touchdown on only five carries, and also threw for 34 yards and a touchdown. Mark Miller was in the mix as well, providing Raines with two touchdowns.
The team's defense also helped out by holding Westside to a paltry 127 yards. A big part of that defensive dominance came down to Raines' ability to keep the quarterback under pressure: the team laid the passer out seven times before it was all said and done. Leading the way was Jaylen Clark and his two sacks.
Westside has yet to win a matchup on the road this season, leaving them with a 0-10 record. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 9-3 Baldwin and 6-4 Englewood (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 57.2% over those games). As for Raines, the win (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 10-1.
Westside does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Raines will be playing at home against Andrew Jackson at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Andrew Jackson is coming into the contest on a four-game losing streak.
