Even though the Valley Vikings have not done well against the Cheyenne Desert Shields recently (they were 0-3 in their previous three matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. Valley was the clear victor by a 69-46 margin over Cheyenne. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win Valley has posted since December 7, 2023.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Valley to victory, but perhaps none more so than Elijah Flowers, who scored 19 points along with six assists and five rebounds. Flowers hasn't dropped below 15 points for eight straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Xavier Shufford, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 16 rebounds.
Cheyenne's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Omarion Kincey, who scored eight points.
The victory makes it two in a row for Valley and bumps their season record up to 6-15. As for Cheyenne, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost six of their last eight games, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-15 record this season.
Valley will be playing in front of their home fans against Faith Lutheran at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Faith Lutheran has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 854 points over their last 12 matches. As for Cheyenne, they will head out on the road to square off against Sierra Vista at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Sierra Vista has insisted on making their lastthree contests complete nail-biters, turning in a record of 2-1 during that stretch of close contests.
