Softball Recap: Sherrard Now 6-1 over Last Seven Games

Sherrard barely beat Newman Central Catholic the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Tigers put the hurt on the Comets with a sharp 16-6 win on Friday. The Tigers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten contests by six runs or more this season.

Makensie Westfall was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits (and only one walk). That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in April. She was even better at the plate, firing off two home runs, five RBI, and three runs while going 2-for-3.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Makenzy Moran, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs. Tessa Driessens was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Sherrard lost a few balls and finished the game with four home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

Sherrard has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven games. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-4 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.6 runs over those games. As for Newman Central Catholic, their loss dropped their record down to 6-11.

Coming up, Sherrard will take on Monmouth-Roseville at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Newman Central Catholic, they will face off against Kewanee at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
