Baseball Recap: Oostburg's Losing Streak Is a Thing of the Past

Oostburg can bid farewell to their six-game losing streak thanks to their game on Saturday. They blew past the Sheboygan Falls Falcons 12-2. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Flying Dutchmen considering their two-run performance the game before.

Caden Helmer was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. He is becoming a predictor of Oostburg's success: when he allows at most two earned runs the team is 2-1 (and 4-9 when he doesn't). Helmer was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two runs.

In other batting news, Caeden Steuerwald was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Oostburg is 5-1 when Steuerwald posts two or more stolen bases, but 1-9 otherwise. Chase Townsend was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and one run.

Oostburg always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .545. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Sheboygan Falls only posted an OBP of .348.

Oostburg's win bumped their record up to 6-10. As for Sheboygan Falls, their defeat was their 20th straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-12.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Oostburg will square off against Plymouth at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Panthers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 6.71 runs per game on average), something the Flying Dutchmen will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Sheboygan Falls, they will take on Valders at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. The Vikings will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something the Falcons surely won't give up without a fight.
