After flying high against the Grand Canyon Phantoms last Tuesday, the Ash Fork Spartans came back down to earth. Ash Fork fell to Williams 45-39. If Ash Fork hoped to take revenge for the 44-28 loss against they when the teams met on Friday, then they were left disappointed.
Ash Fork's loss came despite strong showings from Jesus Ayala and Gabril Zeller. Ayala scored 13 points, while Zeller scored 12 points along with six rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Ayala has scored all season.
Williams was led to victory by JP Echeverria and Nickoli Cody. Echeverria scored 15 points along with nine rebounds and five assists, while Cody scored 18 points along with seven rebounds and three steals. Echeverria is absolutely dominating the steal category: he's posted at least two every time he's taken the court this season.
Ash Fork has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 11-11 record this season. As for Williams, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 14-8.
Ash Fork will head out on the road to challenge Seligman at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Arizona (Seligman is ranked 299th, while Ash Fork is ranked 295th). Williams won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Fredonia at 12:30 p.m. on January 13th.
