I-70 recap October 8, 2013
Crest Ridge added to the longest winning streak in I-70 this week by beating St. Paul Lutheran, 28-7. This was the team's fifth consecutive win.
Orrick lost to Lone Jack 42-0 last week, the largest margin of any game.
Ethan Matthews provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Crest Ridge beat the Saints. He completed 2 passes for 41 yards and also ran for 181 yards.
Matthews was the best running back in the league this week. He ran for 181 yards on 25 carries as Chris Cavanah's team lost to Santa Fe. Justin Donald also contributed to the rushing game with 115 yards on the ground.
The Greyhounds' Jeffery Hall and Nathan Vogelsmeier led the league in both passing and receiving yards. 6-3 quarterback Hall has thrown for 604 yards this season, while Vogelsmeier has 13 catches for 443 yards. The Mules' Joey Brandon leads the league in rushing yards with 681.
Fans will be treated to a premier battle in the secondary when Sweet Springs' Vogelsmeier goes up against the Cougars' Donald.
Next week's game between Melvin Baker's team and Crest Ridge will feature a good passing match up as Hall will test his arm against Donald's defensive ability.
An important game coming up in I-70 this week will be when Concordia takes on Lone Jack. The Fighting Orioles are currently in second, while Jason Fenstermaker's team is in third.
Concordia led the league in scoring this week by notching 68 points on Wellington-Napoleon.
