The Firebaugh Eagles will head out on the road to face off against the Liberty Hawks at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Liberty took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Firebaugh, who comes in off a win.
Last Friday, in a tight game that could have gone either way, Firebaugh made off with a 22-21 win over Mendota.
Firebaugh's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Ryan Luna led the charge by rushing for 36 yards and a touchdown, while also picking up 35 receiving yards. Another player making a difference was Isaac Ceja, who threw for 146 yards and a touchdown.
Meanwhile, after a string of four wins, Liberty's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They fell to Chowchilla 28-23.
Liberty's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Caleb Sisco, who gained 119 total yards and a touchdown, and Noah Bonilla who threw for 196 yards and three touchdowns.
Firebaugh has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a massive bump to their 5-5 record this season. As for Liberty, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-3.
Friday's matchup might be decided on the ground as these two are both standouts in the run game. Firebaugh has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 169.7 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Liberty struggles in that department as they've been even better at 241.7 per game. It's looking like Friday's game might have some serious battles in the trenches.
Firebaugh ended up a good deal behind Liberty when the teams last played back in August of 2019, losing 53-35. Thankfully for Firebaugh, Quentin Stewart (who rushed for 240 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 8.0 yards per carry) won't be suiting up this time.
