The Eastern Eagles had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 29 points), and they went ahead and made it four on Saturday. They blew past Southern 42-7 on the road. The result was nothing new for Eastern, who have now won six matches by 26 points or more so far this season.
Eastern got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Gavan Smith out in front who rushed for 224 yards and three touchdowns on only 12 carries. Lance Hensler was another key contributor, rushing for 143 yards and two touchdowns on only eight carries.
Eastern's victory was their sixth straight on the road (dating back to last season), which bumped their overall record up to 9-1. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 0-8 Buffalo and 0-9 Belpre (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 37.6% over those games). As for Southern, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-7.
Eastern will be playing in front of their home fans against Berne Union at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Berne Union is coming into the matchup on a four-game losing streak. Southern does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
