Basketball Recap: Marcus Heath Jr Key Part of a Team Effort in Trojans Win

Dougherty won the last time they faced Peach County and things went their way on Saturday too. The Dougherty Trojans managed a 57-52 victory over the Peach County Trojans. Given Dougherty's advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 102nd, while Peach County is ranked 285th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Dougherty got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Marcus Heath Jr out in front who posted 12 points. The dominant performance gave Heath Jr a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Davious Johnson, who earned eight points.

Despite the loss, Peach County still got an impressive performance from Ronnie Covington, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and ten rebounds. Covington continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Javon Mike also deserves some recognition as he posted his first assists of the season.

Dougherty is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 12-8 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.2 points per game. As for Peach County, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last eight contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-12 record this season.

Dougherty didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, an 83-50 victory against Cairo on the 28th. As for Peach County, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 56-50 loss against Northside on the 28th.
