Softball Recap: Ezekiel Academy Makes It Eight in a Row on the Road

The home team had come away the winner the last four times Ezekiel Academy and Wiregrass had met, but sadly for the fans who attended this one that wasn't the case. The Knights put the hurt on the Kings with a sharp 11-1 victory on Tuesday. The result was nothing new for the Knights, who have now won 18 matches by six runs or more so far this season.

Lailyn Shelton was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She pitched three innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, going a perfect 1-for-1 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. That's the most runs she has posted over her last 11 games.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Sarah Vick, who went 1-for-2 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Addie Newell was another key player, getting on base in two of her three plate appearances with two runs.

Ezekiel Academy pushed their record up to 28-6 with the win, which was their eighth straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.6 runs over those games. As for Wiregrass, their loss dropped their record down to 2-4.

Coming up, Ezekiel Academy will head out to square off against Southern Christian at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The Patriots have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 11.13 runs per game on average), something the Knights will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Wiregrass, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Evangel Christian at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday. The Kings' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Lightning have averaged an impressive 9.3 runs per game this season.
