Baseball Game Preview: Williston Red Devils vs. Lafayette Hornets

The Williston Red Devils will head out to take on the Lafayette Hornets at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Last Thursday, everything went Williston's way against Bradford as Williston made off with a 17-8 win.

Blake Martin was incredible, going 3-for-4 with four stolen bases, four runs, and five RBI. Those four runs gave him a new career-high. Breeden Clemenzi was another key player, scoring four runs and stealing Four bases. while getting on base in four of his six plate appearances.

Meanwhile, Lafayette had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Monday. They never let the Trojans get on the board and left with a 10-0 victory.

Brayden Richardson made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out seven over five innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one RBI.

Richardson wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Kagan Hewett, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-1. That stolen base was Hewett's first of the season. Another was Trevor Byrd, who scored two runs while getting on base in both of his plate appearances.

Lafayette pushed their record up to 9-2 with the win, which was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.6 runs on average over those games. As for Williston, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-4 record this season.
