Baseball Recap: DePaul College Prep Triumphs

DePaul College Prep was not the first on the board on Saturday, but they got there more often. They walked away with an 11-7 victory over the Saint Ignatius College Prep Wolfpack. The Rams haven't had any issues with the Wolfpack recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.

Jack Reid and Conor Dunne dominated on the mound. Reid tossed four innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits, while Dunne pitched three innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run but no hits. What's more, Reid posted two strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March.

On the hitting side, Addison Latko and Beni Espinosa did most of the damage at the plate: Latko got on base in three of his five plate appearances with three stolen bases, two runs, and one triple, while Espinosa got on base in four of his five plate appearances with four stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Those four stolen bases gave Espinosa a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Joey Sacchetti, who went 3-for-5 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

DePaul College Prep kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Saint Ignatius College Prep only managed six hits.

DePaul College Prep's record is now 20-4. As for Saint Ignatius College Prep, they dropped their record down to 9-15 with the defeat, which was their third straight at home.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. DePaul College Prep will host IC Catholic Prep at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday. The Rams are facing the Knights at the right time seeing as the Knights are stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for Saint Ignatius College Prep, they will welcome St. Rita at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Wolfpack will also cruise into their next contest with the timing on their side: the Mustangs will have lost four straight heading into Monday's game.
