The Carrollton Hawks will head out on the road to square off against the Civic Memorial Eagles at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Carrollton is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt wants to keep things rolling.
Carrollton's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Monday. They were the clear victors by a 15-0 margin over West Central co-op [Winchester-Bluffs]. Considering the Hawks have won seven contests by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Lauren Flowers was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out ten over four innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs and one triple. That triple marked the first that she hit this season.
In other batting news, Carrollton let Vanna Holmes and Brookelyn Eilerman run wild. Holmes scored two runs while going 3-for-3, while Eilerman scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Hannah Uhles was another key player, scoring two runs while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
Carrollton always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .613. The last time their OBP was this high was back in May of 2024.
While Civic Memorial didn't have the best season last year (they finished 10-18), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. Everything went their way against Litchfield on Tuesday as they made off with an 11-0 victory. The Eagles haven't had any issues with the Purple Panthers recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive win against them.
Megan Griffith was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-3. Another player making a difference was Zoey Hunt, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3.
Carrollton pushed their record up to 9-0 with the victory, which was their 21st straight at home dating back to last season. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.2 runs on average over those games. As for Civic Memorial, their record is now 6-2.
Tuesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Carrollton hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .407. However, it's not like Civic Memorial struggles in that department as they've averaged .347. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Carrollton beat Civic Memorial 4-1 in their previous matchup back in March of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Hawks since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
