AA West recap Sept. 26, 2012
Beulah extended the longest winning streak in AA West this week by beating St. Mary's Central, 28-14. The win marks fifth in a row for the the Miners.
Rugby was able to crack the Top 25 in the state rankings this week after beating Trinity/New England 45-33. The Panthers came in at 21 in the state poll after placing at number 34 last week.
Beulah's dynamic duo of Trevor Zacher and Brett Koch proved tough for the Saints to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Zacher threw for 205 yards and one touchdown and Koch had 80 yards receiving. Cody Nelson helped Beulah's passing attack out by catching four balls for 64 yards.
Casey Murphy was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 12 carries, he ran for 140 yards as Carrington topped St. Mary's Central. Walker Carr also contributed to the rushing game with 84 yards on the ground.
Beulah's Zacher and Jesse Hettich have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Zacher has thrown for 845 yards this season, while Hettich, a 6-foot-3 receiver, has 18 catches for 343 yards. Trevor Wettlaufer from Bottineau leads the league in rushing with 711 yards.
A big matchup in AA West this week will be when the Cardinals take on Bishop Ryan/Sawyer. As it stands, Carrington is in third, while the Lions are in second.
Rugby was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from seventh to fourth in the league. Earlier in the week, Scott Grochow's team triumphed over the Titans 45-33.
