Chartiers-Houston is 3-0 against Avella since October of 2018, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Chartiers-Houston Buccaneers will head out on the road to face off against the Avella Eagles at 7:00 p.m. Both teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with six consecutive losses for Chartiers-Houston and three for Avella.
Chartiers-Houston fell victim to Cornell's stalwart defense on Friday and couldn't make it onto the board. They were outmatched by the Raiders at home and fell 39-0. While losing is never fun, Chartiers-Houston can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania football rankings (they are ranked 518th, while Cornell is ranked 207th).
Even if they lost, Chartiers-Houston's defensive line sure didn't make it easy: Cornell's QB was sacked six times before it was all said and done. The heavy lifting was done by Zeke Watkins and Isaac Jenkins who racked up four sacks between them.
Meanwhile, Avella suffered a rough 28-6 loss at the hands of Burgettstown on Friday.
Chartiers-Houston's loss was their sixth straight at home, which dropped their overall record down to 1-9. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 6.0 points per game. As for Avella, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost five of their last six matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-6 record this season.
Everything came up roses for Chartiers-Houston against Avella in their previous meeting back in October of 2022 as the squad secured a 35-6 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Chartiers-Houston since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
