Baseball Recap: IMG Academy Silver Find Success

On Monday, the IMG Academy Silver Ascenders were able to grind out a solid win over the Maryville Red Rebels, taking the game 6-2.

Kane Garcia made a splash while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out six over five innings pitched. He also tossed no walks, which is notable because IMG Academy Silver is undefeated when he allows at most one walk, but 1-4 otherwise. Garcia was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 1-for-2. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in runs.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Carter Rivera, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was Matias Castillo, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI.

IMG Academy Silver was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .385. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

IMG Academy Silver's record is now 6-4. As for Maryville, they moved to 4-1 with that defeat, which also ended their four-game winning streak.

Looking ahead, IMG Academy Silver will be taking part in a tournament against DeLand at 3:15 p.m. on March 17th. As for Maryville, they will venture away from home to face off against Manatee at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average, (Manatee 3, Maryville 2.4) so any runs scored will be well earned.
