Erie-Prophetstown had to settle for second on Saturday, but Caden VanHorn sure wasn't going down easily. VanHorn tossed four innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off five hits, good enough for us to rate the performance as the best he's had all season long. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

Looking ahead, VanHorn and Erie-Prophetstown will challenge Mendota at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Panthers got just the result they wanted when they last faced the Trojans thanks in part to VanHorn: he went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
