Fullington Academy and Citizens Christian Academy are an even 5-5 against one another since September of 2019, but likely not for long. The Trojans will be playing at home against the Patriots at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Fullington Academy will be strutting in after a win while Citizens Christian Academy will be coming in after a defeat.
Fullington Academy took a loss when they played away from home back in July, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by a 17-2 margin over Twiggs Academy. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for Fullington Academy considering their two-run performance the match before.
Brooklin Cromer made a splash no matter where she played. She tossed three innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. Cromer was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two triples, three runs, and one stolen base. Those two triples gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Evelyn Fletcher and Rayelee Johnson did most of the damage at the plate: Fletcher went 1-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple, while Johnson went a perfect 2-for-2 with four stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most runs Fletcher has posted since back in August of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Izzy Ross, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs.
Wayne County hit Citizens Christian Academy with a seven-run fifth inning on Friday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Patriots came up short against the Yellow Jackets, falling 11-5. The loss put an end to the Patriots' undefeated start to the season.
Emma Gourley was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI and one double. Another player making a difference was Brilynn Waldron, who went 1-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.
The victory got Fullington Academy back to even at 1-1. As for Citizens Christian Academy, their loss was their first of the season and makes their record 2-1.
Fullington Academy couldn't quite finish off Citizens Christian Academy when the teams last played back in August of 2024 and fell 7-5. Can the Trojans avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
