The Union City Soaring Eagles entered their tilt with the West Orange Mountaineers with eight consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with nine. Union City managed a 20-14 win over West Orange on Friday. For Union City, this counts as revenge for the 33-14 defeat West Orange walked away with the last time they faced one another back in October of 2021.
Mark Boyd was his usual excellent self, rushing for 119 yards and two touchdowns on only 13 carries. Boyd was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 52 yards.
Union City's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB three times. Leading the way was Adrian Villalta and his two sacks.
Union City's victory was their 11th straight at home (dating back to last season), bumping their overall record up to 9-1. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 38.3 points per game. As for West Orange, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-5.
Union City will face off against Phillipsburg at TBD on Friday. One thing working in Phillipsburg's favor is that they have now posted big point totals in their last three matchups. West Orange does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
