The Skutt Catholic SkyHawks will head out to challenge the Omaha Central Eagles at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Skutt Catholic has eight straight wins, Omaha Central has three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Skutt Catholic is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Nebraska's top teams: Elkhorn North, who was ranked fourth at the time (Skutt Catholic was ranked seventh). The SkyHawks walked away with a 5-1 victory over the Wolves on Friday.
Easton Elam spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on three hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Cooper Smith was excellent, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one run and one double. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March.
Meanwhile, Omaha Central suffered their closest loss since April 19, 2025 on Saturday. They fell just short of Lincoln Northeast by a score of 4-2.
Boe Di Lorenzo was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he pitched five innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off three hits. What's more, he gave up only two walks, the fewest he's had since back in March.
On the hitting side, Omaha Central saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Luke Neujahr, who went 1-for-3 with one RBI.
Omaha Central's defeat dropped their record down to 6-14. As for Skutt Catholic, their win bumped their record up to 15-3.
Omaha Central's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Skutt Catholic has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .434. It's a different story for Omaha Central, though, as they've only averaged .335. Will they be able to contain Skutt Catholic's hitters?
Skutt Catholic beat Omaha Central 5-0 in their previous meeting back in April of 2025. The rematch might be a little tougher for the SkyHawks since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
