The Montrose Red Hawks had to hit the road for their first game and sadly it wasn't the result they were hoping for. They took a hard 59-43 fall against Rocky Mountain on Thursday. Montrose lost against Rocky Mountain in their previous head to head back in December of 2022, too, but the margin this time around was much wider than the 55-30 score last time.
Montrose's lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Taygan Rocco, who scored 17 points along with 5 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Mayce Oberg, who scored 13 points along with 6 rebounds.
Montrose struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Rocky Mountain racked up 16.
Sara Chicco was on fire for Rocky Mountain: she went 8 for 9 from beyond the arc en route to 34 points and 4 assists. Another player making a difference was Meela Delap, who scored 2 points along with 5 rebounds and 4 steals.
Montrose's defeat dropped their record down to 0-1. As for Rocky Mountain, their win bumped their record up to 1-0.
Montrose will head out on the road to face off against Pagosa Springs at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Rocky Mountain won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Delta at 2:00 p.m. on December 1st.
