Bartlett Yancey came into their game on Tuesday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They lost 13-4 to Northwood. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Buccaneers have suffered since March 20, 2024.
While Bethany Community didn't have the best season last year (they finished 7-11), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They were the clear victor by a 9-2 margin over Northeast Guilford on Monday. The result was nothing new for the Wolves, who have now won four matchups by seven runs or more so far this season.
Ryan Rudd and Gavin Washburn made a big impact no matter where they played. On the mound, Rudd tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Meanwhile, Washburn struck out eight batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in March of 2024. At bat, Rudd went 3-for-4 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run, while Washburn scored a run while going 2-for-2.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Brooks McDowell, who scored four runs and stole Two bases. while going 3-for-4. Brooks Lawson was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.
Bethany Community kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Northeast Guilford only managed seven hits.
Bethany Community pushed their record up to 6-2 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.8 runs on average over those games. As for Bartlett Yancey, their loss dropped their record down to 2-4.
Bartlett Yancey took their victory against Bethany Community in their previous matchup back in March of 2023 by a conclusive 11-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for Bartlett Yancey since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
