The Clay Eagles had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7 points), and they went ahead and made it five on Tuesday. They took down Springfield 57-42. Given Clay's advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 122nd, while the Blue Devils are ranked 504th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
When it comes to explaining why Springfield lost, one person who can't be blamed is Nate Pope. Despite the final result, he scored ten points along with three blocks and two steals. Aaron Adams was another key contributor, scoring eight points.
Clay has been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 9-5 record this season. As for Springfield, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-11.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Clay will face off against the Generals at 7:15 p.m. on Friday. Springfield's road trip will continue as they head out to face the Wildcats at 7:15 p.m. on February 2nd. Northview is coming into the matchup on a four-game losing streak.
