Basketball Recap: Fort Wayne Bishop Dwenger Comes Up Short

If Fort Wayne Bishop Dwenger was feeling good fresh off their 53-30 takedown of Garrett last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Fort Wayne Bishop Dwenger Saints were beaten by the Carroll Chargers 80-53 on Friday. While losing is never fun, the Saints can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 165th, while the Chargers are ranked 43rd).

Despite the defeat, Fort Wayne Bishop Dwenger saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Izzie Eke went 7 for 16 on her way to 22 points in addition to six rebounds and four steals. That's the most points Eke has posted since back in November of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaite Keefer, who posted two points along with six rebounds and four steals.

Even though they lost, Fort Wayne Bishop Dwenger smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in four consecutive matchups.

Carroll's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Jersey Paul, who went 7 of 12 on her way to 22 points and four steals. The contest was Paul's fourth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Cala Haffner, who went 7 of 11 on her way to 17 points in addition to six rebounds and five assists.

Fort Wayne Bishop Dwenger has traveled a rocky road recently having lost nine of their last 11 games, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-12 record this season. As for Carroll, the win got them back to even at 8-8.

Fort Wayne Bishop Dwenger will take on Norwell at 7:45 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Carroll, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 75-43 loss against Hamilton Southeastern on the 11th.
