Basketball Recap: Telluride Falls Despite Big Games from Sam Herman and Alex Nieto

Telluride was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They received a blow as they fell 58-43 to the Dove Creek Bulldogs. The Miners were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Bulldogs apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in February of 2024.

Telluride's loss came despite strong showings from Alex Nieto and Sam Herman. Nieto posted 15 points and five rebounds, while Herman dropped a double-double on ten points and ten boards. Nieto is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last four games he's played. Langston Silbergeld was another key player, putting up nine points and five rebounds.

Dove Creek's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Josh Kibel, who went 8 for 15 en route to 16 points and six boards. Another player making a difference was Sheldon Gardner, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and ten rebounds.

Telluride's defeat dropped their record down to 6-9. As for Dove Creek, their victory was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-5.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Telluride will square off against Crested Butte at 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Dove Creek, they will take on Ouray at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Dove Creek's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last five contests.
