There wasn't a ton of movement in the power rankings this week, but there was certainly enough to keep things interesting. That and more in this week's report.
Can't Touch This
Lakeland's 57 - 0 win over Bartow last week had a lot to do with the leadership of junior Demarkcus Bowman. Bowman earned four touchdowns and 165 yards rushing the ball. In fact, our algorithms singled out Bowman as one of the top players in the power rankings for the week.
This Week's Big Showdown
The showdown between IMG Academy (1st in the MaxPreps state rankings) and Northwestern (20th) shaped up to be more of a takedown. IMG Academy took its contest against Northwestern by a conclusive 34 - 7 score. IMG Academy did have the odds in its favor, but the team did even better than the MaxPreps national rankings indicated.
No Stoppin 'Em
Tampa Bay Tech managed to bank 120 more yards than its opponent Lennard last week, and going the extra distance paid off. Tampa Bay Tech had all the answers against Lennard, winning 47 - 21. Senior Xavier Freeman was a big part of the win as his strong performance led the charge (he rushed for 119 yards and three touchdowns). At 68 total points, this was the highest scoring power ranking game of the week.
