Lakeland extended their losing streak to three on Thursday, dropping them down to 6-14. They came up short against the Fremont Eagles, falling 12-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Lakers have suffered since May 23, 2025.
Lakeland saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Bailey Bateman, who went 3-for-4 with one double. Rylee Amsden was another, going 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
As for Fremont, they moved to 6-12 with that win, which also ended their three-game losing streak. The high-scoring effort was just what they needed considering they were shut out in their previous matchup.
On Fremont's side, Emma Creager made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched four innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. Creager has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April.
In other batting news, Mallorie Huffnagle and Chloe Verdin did most of the damage at the plate: Huffnagle went 2-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one double, while Verdin went 3-for-5 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. Another player making a difference was Drew Snyder, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Lakeland will take on Sturgis at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Trojans have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 13.68 runs per game on average), something the Lakers will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Fremont, they will challenge Fort Wayne Northrop at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
