Naselle gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Saturday. They blew past the Darrington Loggers, posting a 52-8 victory. With the Comets ahead 44-0 at the half, the game was all but over already.
Naselle found their leader in sophomore Eli Gardner, who rushed for 124 yards and a pair of scores on only seven carries, and also picked up 66 receiving yards and two TDs. Gardner got the majority of those rushing yards when he took off on a run that went for an incredible 74 yards. Leith Chadwick was another key player, throwing for 103 yards and three touchdowns on only eight passes.
Naselle was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 266 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 248 rushing yards in six consecutive matchups dating back to last season.
Naselle and Darrington will both get their first taste of in-conference action in their upcoming games. The Comets will face off against rival Wahkiakum at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Darrington is set to take on their familiar foe Lummi at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
