Monroe Area (Monroe, Ga.) captured the lead in the fourth quarter and held on for a 21-17 victory over
Stephens County (Toccoa, Ga.) on Saturday. The Hurricanes captured the lead for good when it ran for a touchdown.
After taking the lead on a field goal by
Matt Moon, the Indians went into halftime with a 17-7 lead. The Hurricanes took the lead for good with a touchdown run in the fourth quarter.
Despite scoring seven points in the third, Monroe Area still trailed by 3 points going into the fourth quarter. But seven points in the fourth helped MA pull out the victory.
With the win the Monroe school extended its winning streak to six games. The Hurricanes defeated Lanier 33-20 last week.
Moon played well for Stephens County. The senior kicked one field goal and one extra point.
Monroe Area went into the matchup giving up only 13.8 points per game. The 17 points that SC ended with were well below its average of 40.4 coming into the game.
Monroe Area (6-0) goes up against Walnut Grove in a AAAA Region 8 game matchup next week, while Stephens County (4-2) locks horns with Madison County also in a AAAA Region 8 game.
