Staunton River is 9-1 against William Byrd since April of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Golden Eagles will challenge the Terriers at 7:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Staunton River has six straight wins, William Byrd has three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Staunton River's pitching crew heads into the match hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They blew past Northside 11-0. Considering the Golden Eagles have won six contests by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Emma Alcorn looked comfortable as she pitched 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Staunton River got a massive performance out of Payton Chewning, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Ava Overstreet, who went 1-for-2 with one home run and two RBI.

Staunton River was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .464. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

William Byrd might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 10-6 to Pulaski County, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior.

Staunton River pushed their record up to 8-2 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for William Byrd, their loss dropped their record down to 3-7.

Staunton River beat William Byrd 4-1 when the teams last played back in May of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Golden Eagles since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
