Basketball Game Preview: Whitefield Academy Lions vs. St. Joseph D Defenders

The Whitefield Academy Lions will square off against the St. Joseph D Defenders at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Whitefield Academy is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt wants to keep things rolling.

Whitefield Academy is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They took their match back in December of 2024 with ease, bagging a 53-16 victory over Blue Ridge Christian. While the Lions didn't have the best season last year (they finished 5-8), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Whitefield Academy's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Ann Metcalf led the charge by going 8 of 15 en route to 16 points. Those 16 points gave Metcalf a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Natalie Jones, who went 5 for 11 on her way to 13 points.

Meanwhile, St. Joseph D played a tough contest on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. 2025 welcomed they with a 43-20 loss courtesy of Cornerstone Family. The Defenders were down 35-10 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.

Whitefield Academy's win bumped their record up to 4-0. As for St. Joseph D, their defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 1-1.

Whitefield Academy was taken down by St. Joseph D 60-16 in their previous meeting back in December of 2023. Can Whitefield Academy avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
