Collegiate had lost four straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Friday they dropped down to 1-8 to make it five. They came up short against the Grace Christian School Kings, falling 14-5. The Cougars were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Kings earlier this season, when they won 21-20.
Collegiate saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was McKenzie Patterson, who got on base in three of her five plate appearances with one RBI. Addison Barnes was another, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
As for Grace Christian School, their record now sits at 2-3. The high-scoring effort was just what they needed considering they were shut out in their previous game.
On Grace Christian School's side, Mila Dunn was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. Dunn was also solid in the batter's box, going 4-for-5 with three runs.
In other batting news, Mackenzie Dunford and Ayla Kemp did most of the damage at the plate: Dunford went 2-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI, while Kemp went 2-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI. Dunford also hit a double, marking her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Savannah Duda, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Collegiate wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next contest, a 13-0 loss against Trinity Episcopal on the 14th. As for Grace Christian School, they have also already played their next matchup, a 16-13 defeat against Hampton Christian Academy on the 14th.
