Fort Wayne Northrop and East Noble are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2018, but likely not for long. The Bruins are taking a road trip to face off against the Knights at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Fort Wayne Northrop is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.4 runs per game this season.
Fort Wayne Northrop's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Monday. They put the hurt on Fort Wayne Wayne with a sharp 14-0 victory. The Bruins might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three matches by 12 runs or more this season.
The team relied heavily on Baylee Huth, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, three doubles, and four RBI. Juliana Hansen also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.
Fort Wayne Northrop was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .600. The last time their batting average was this high was back in April of 2024.
Meanwhile, East Noble entered their tilt with DeKalb on Wednesday with four consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with five. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 4-3 W against the Barons. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Knights have posted since May 21, 2024.
Abby Alwine spent all 13 innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on 11 hits and racked up 14 Ks. Those 14 strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.
At the plate, Aubrey Helmkamp was excellent, getting on base in four of her seven plate appearances with one triple and one run. Another player making a difference was Bri Bortner, who went 2-for-6 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
East Noble's record now sits at 7-2. As for Fort Wayne Northrop, the victory got them back to even at 5-5.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Thursday. Fort Wayne Northrop hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.9 home runs per game. However, it's not like East Noble struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.7 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Fort Wayne Northrop skirted past East Noble 4-2 in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Bruins since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
