Bentonville is a perfect 4-0 against Vilonia since March of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Tigers will square off against the Eagles at 4:30 p.m. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Bentonville comes in on six and Vilonia on nine.
Bentonville is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Arkansas' top teams: Bentonville West, who was ranked 11th at the time (Bentonville was ranked first). The Tigers put the hurt on the Wolverines with a sharp 10-0 victory on Thursday. The Tigers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 17 contests by six runs or more this season.
Bentonville got a great performance from Darby Burnett as she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out six over five innings pitched. Burnett has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in 11 consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Violet Nguyen, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and two doubles. The team also got some help courtesy of Anniston Reith, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run and four RBI.
Meanwhile, Vilonia won against Conway on Friday with seven runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Tuesday. The Eagles came out on top against Beebe by a score of 7-2.
Kinley Brown looked comfortable as she pitched three innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits.
At the plate, Lila Toll was excellent, going 1-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. LaNaya McLaughlin also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Bentonville pushed their record up to 21-2 with the win, which was their 27th straight at home dating back to last season. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.7 runs on average over those games. As for Vilonia, their record is now 18-3.
Everything went Bentonville's way against Vilonia in their previous meeting back in March of 2019, as Bentonville made off with a 15-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Tigers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
