The Coahoma Bulldogs will head out on the road to take on the Denver City Mustangs at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Coahoma will come into the matchup with an undefeated record on the line.
Coahoma's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by a 10-0 margin over Brownfield. Considering the Bulldogs have won 17 contests by more than six runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Hannah Wells was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 12 over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 12 consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, firing off two home runs, three runs, and four RBI while going 3-for-4.
In other batting news, Addi Hart was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one double. Mia Clemmer was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one home run and two runs.
Coahoma kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in 12 consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, Denver City waltzed into their game on Friday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They blew past the Cranes 19-4. Considering the Mustangs have won 13 contests by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Denver City got a massive performance out of Annie Gonzalez, who fired off two home runs, three runs, and three RBI while going 2-for-2. Those two home runs gave Gonzalez a new career-high. Ashley Martinez also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.
Coahoma pushed their record up to 22-0 with the win, which was their 17th straight at home dating back to last season. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.5 runs over those games. As for Denver City, their record now sits at 19-6.
Saturday's match might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Coahoma has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .579. However, it's not like Denver City struggles in that department as they've averaged .629. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Coahoma's way against Denver City when the teams last played back in March, as Coahoma made off with a 16-1 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Bulldogs since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
