William Blount is 2-8 against Heritage since April of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The William Blount Governors will face off against the Heritage Mountaineers at 5:00 p.m. The last three games William Blount has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
Last Wednesday, William Blount had just enough and edged out Powell 2-1. That's two games straight that the Governors have won by just one run.
Katee Owens was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out 14 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits (and not a single walk). That's the fewest hits she has allowed since back in April of 2024. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-2. That stolen base marked the first that she snagged this season.
Owens wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Bella Jones, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.
Meanwhile, Heritage had already won two in a row and they went ahead and made it three on Tuesday. They put the hurt on the Redskins with a sharp 12-2 win. The Mountaineers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five contests by eight runs or more this season.
Heritage also got a great performance from Payton Hasty as she struck out nine batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits (and only one walk). Hasty has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Portlyn Bennett and Carly Smith did most of the damage at the plate: Bennett went 2-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs, while Smith got on base in all three of her plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Those three runs gave Smith a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Autumn Brooke Perrin, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.
Heritage pushed their record up to 7-2 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 12 runs. As for William Blount, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-2 record this season.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Friday. William Blount hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.5 home runs per game. However, it's not like Heritage struggles in that department as they've been averaging 1.4 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
William Blount couldn't quite get it done against Heritage when the teams last played back in April of 2024 as they fell 11-6. Can William Blount avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
