The Gordo Green Wave lost to the Oakman Wildcats back in December of 2023, but the Gordo Green Wave didn't allow the Oakman Wildcats the same satisfaction on Monday. Gordo snuck past the Wildcats with a 49-45 win. The victory was all the more spectacular given Gordo's disadvantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked 314th, while the Wildcats are ranked 89th).
Oakman's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Trenton Warren, who scored 15 points along with eight rebounds and six blocks. Warren hasn't dropped below two blocks for six straight games. Bridger Upton was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with five rebounds and five steals.
Gordo has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a massive bump to their 6-10 record this season. As for Oakman, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 13-3.
Gordo will stay at home for another game and welcome the Stallions at 6:30 p.m. on February 1st. Oakman will be staying on the road on Wednesday to face off against the Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. on January 31st.
