Albany has gone a perfect 4-0 against De Anza recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Albany Cougars will head out on the road to challenge the De Anza Dons at 4:00 p.m. Albany has given up an average of 9 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.
Albany came up short against Alhambra on Thursday, falling 11-3.
Lauren Jones made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs and stole Two bases. while going 2-for-3. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in April of 2024. Annalise Winkle also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
Meanwhile, after only two runs in their last match, De Anza made sure to put some runs up on the board against St. Patrick-St. Vincent on Tuesday. De Anza blew past St. Patrick-St. Vincent 23-4.
Mya Arroyo and Ma'Yhana Moore were a major factor no matter where they played. Throwing, Arroyo pitched two innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Meanwhile, Moore tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off six hits. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-low in walks (zero). At bat, Arroyo scored four runs and stole Three bases. while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances, while Moore scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Riana Everetts, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with one home run, four runs, and two stolen bases. Another player making a difference was Aubrianna Garcia, who scored three runs and stole Two bases. while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.
De Anza always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .773. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as St. Patrick-St. Vincent only posted an OBP of .375.
The victory got De Anza back to even at 1-1. As for Albany, they dropped their record down to 1-4 with the defeat, which was their third straight at home.
Everything went Albany's way against De Anza in their previous meeting back in May of 2022, as Albany made off with a 25-1 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Albany since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
