The Lovelady Lions will head out on the road to square off against the Centerville Tigers at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Both teams come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Lovelady posted their biggest victory yet this season on Friday. They blew past Leon 55-34. The victory was just what Lovelady needed coming off of a 81-30 loss in their prior matchup.
Meanwhile, Centerville waltzed into their contest on Wednesday with three straight wins but they left with four. They managed a 59-53 win over Latexo. Given Centerville's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 612th, while Latexo is ranked 1413th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Centerville's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Trayce Schwab, who scored 19 points along with five assists and four steals, and Wade Neyland, who scored 26 points along with nine rebounds and three steals. Neyland is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last 17 games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Zach Waters, who scored four points along with seven rebounds.
The victory got Lovelady back to even at 5-5. As for Centerville, their win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 16-5.
Lovelady might still be hurting after the 57-37 loss they got from Centerville when the teams last played back in February of 2023. Can Lovelady avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
