Caldwell is 10-0 against Argonia since January of 2018, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. The Caldwell Bluejays will head out on the road to challenge the Argonia Red Raiders at 7:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Caldwell has three straight wins, Argonia has four straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Last Friday, Caldwell didn't have too much trouble with West Elk at home as they won 58-41. That looming 58-41 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for Caldwell yet this season.
Meanwhile, Argonia pushed their score all the way to 66 on Tuesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell just short of Oxford by a score of 68-66. While losing is never fun, Argonia can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 307th, while Oxford is ranked 111th).
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Filippo Leonardi, who scored 25 points along with five assists and five rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points he has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Carson Vineyard, who scored 18 points along with seven assists and seven rebounds.
Even though they lost, Argonia were working as a unit and finished the game with 20 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.
Caldwell's victory bumped their record up to 7-10. As for Argonia, they have not been sharp recently as the team has lost seven of their last eight matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-13 record this season.
Caldwell beat Argonia 53-40 in their previous matchup back in January. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Argonia's Dalton Morrison, who scored 14 points along with six rebounds and three blocks. Now that he's got a second chance to win this matchup, will Caldwell still be able to contain Morrison? There's only one way to find out.
