Even though the Union Spartans have not done well against the Lakewood Leopards recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. Union snuck past the Leopards with a 39-34 win. The win was familiar territory for Union who now have three in a row.
Ariyona Spearman was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 25 points and ten rebounds. She hasn't dropped below ten rebounds for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Centavia McKoy, who scored two points along with ten rebounds and four steals.
Union has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matches, which provided a nice bump to their 13-4 record this season. As for Lakewood, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 7-9.
Union will be playing in front of their home fans against the Eagles at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Rosewood will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings (they are ranked 511th, while the Spartans are ranked 232nd). As for Lakewood, they will head out on the road to square off against the Rebels at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. North Duplin will be looking to keep their seven-game home win streak alive.
