South Iredell has gone a perfect 4-0 against Woodlawn recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Vikings will head out on the road to face off against the Trailblazers at 5:00 p.m. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this match.
South Iredell is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of North Carolina's top teams: West Forsyth, who was ranked third at the time (South Iredell was ranked 12th). The Vikings lost 3-0 to the Titans on Monday. The Vikings haven't had much luck with the Titans recently, as the team has come up short the last five times they've met.
While South Iredell was kept off the board, it wasn't for a lack of trying: they cut into West Forsyth's winning margin in every set. The final score came out to 25-16, 25-18, 25-19.
Meanwhile, Woodlawn was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were a single set away from ending the streak, but they lost a 3-2 heartbreaker at the hands of North Mecklenburg. While the Trailblazers didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Vikings 25-14 in the first set.
Woodlawn started the match hot and won the first two sets, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last three. The match finished with set scores of 14-25, 21-25, 25-19, 25-18, 15-9.
South Iredell will need to focus on slowing down Matt Reed, one of several Woodlawn players who made an impact when they last played. He had 15 kills. Another player making a difference was Dani Santos-Mirza, who had eight kills.
South Iredell's loss dropped their record down to 3-3. As for Woodlawn, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-3.
South Iredell took their win against Woodlawn in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 3-0 score. Will the Vikings repeat their success, or do the Trailblazers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
