Elyria has gone 8-2 against Midview recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Elyria Pioneers will host the Midview Middies at 7:00 p.m. The timing is sure in Elyria's favor as the squad sits on ten straight wins at home (dating back to last season) while Midview has been banged up by five consecutive losses on the road.
Last Saturday, Elyria was able to grind out a solid win over Avon, taking the game 58-48. Given the Pioneers' advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 108th, while the Eagles are ranked 218th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Kendyll Compton continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, shooting 4-for-6 from long range and almost dropping a double-double on 24 points and nine boards. Another player making a difference was Jayden Crutcher, who went 5 of 11 en route to 15 points.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Midview). They had just enough and edged Avon out 78-75. The victory was some much needed relief for the Middies as it spelled an end to their eight-game losing streak.
Elyria better keep an eye on Brady Newton. He was instrumental in Midview's win, dropping a double-double on 26 points and 14 rebounds. Newton is trending in the right direction considering he's improved his point production for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Xavier Young, who went 7 of 10 on his way to 18 points.
Elyria's win bumped their record up to 9-3. As for Midview, their victory was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-4 and their overall record up to 2-9.
Keep an eye on the arc in Tuesday's game: Elyria has been dynamite from deep this season, having drained 37.6% of their three-pointers per game. It's a different story for Midview, though, as they've only made 29.8% of their threes this season. Given Elyria's sizable advantage in that area, Midview will need to find a way to close that gap.
Elyria didn't have too much breathing room in their matchup against Midview in their previous meeting back in February of 2024, but they still walked away with a 57-51 win. Will Elyria repeat their success, or does Midview have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
