La Veta is preparing for their first league matchup of the season on Friday. They will head out on the road to take on the Nucla Mustangs at 11:00 a.m. La Veta is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.4 runs per game this season.
La Veta couldn't beat Del Norte on Tuesday even though they stacked four runs on them in the third inning. The Redhawks lost 19-6 to the Tigers. The Redhawks have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

David Roel and Miguel Rivera did some serious damage despite the final result: Roel went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run, while Rivera went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Roel has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times he's played.
Meanwhile, Nucla came up short against Dolores on Wednesday and fell 13-10. The Mustangs have struggled against the Bears recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost matchup.
Cole Bray was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Hayden Branham also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Nucla's loss dropped their record down to 4-7. As for La Veta, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-7.
Friday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. La Veta has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .438. However, it's not like Nucla struggles in that department as they've averaged .499. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
La Veta beat Nucla 11-8 in their previous matchup back in April of 2025. Do the Redhawks have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Mustangs turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
