King Lopez-Archibald made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (four). He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-2.
In other batting news, Andres Romo and Malosi Gaoteote did most of the damage at the plate: Romo scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-1, while Gaoteote scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-2. Those two runs gave Romo a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Tyler Canen, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2.
Newark Memorial was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .438. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Mission San Jose only posted a batting average of .045.
Meanwhile, James Logan had just enough and edged out Moreau Catholic 3-2 on Thursday. That's two games straight that the Colts have won by just one run.
Wesley Vega spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on four hits. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because James Logan is 4-2 when he allows at most one earned run, but 3-4 otherwise.
On the hitting side, James Logan's win was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Evan Yau, who scored a run while going 1-for-2.
Newark Memorial pushed their record up to 9-2 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.8 runs over those games. As for James Logan, they now have a winning record of 7-6.
Newark Memorial couldn't quite finish off James Logan in their previous meeting back in March of 2024 and fell 2-0. Will the Cougars have more luck at home instead of on the road? Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other baseball content.
